Sheffield artist showcases optimistic art just in time for Christmas

Artcade Gallery, based in the Forum, has revealed its latest exhibition, which it hopes will bring a bit of joy to Sheffield shoppers throughout December.

In this latest exhibition, the gallery and shop continue to showcase and sell artwork from Sheffield’s finest contemporary artists with an exhibition of limited-edition woodcut prints by John Pedder.

A month before the UK went into lockdown, John started ‘Small Mercies’ with the intention to ‘conceive, carve and print a small woodcut pop of joy’ each day, just to put a smile on his face.

As the project progressed, the world around him changed, but John continued to create daily reflections, building up a pattern of John’s life over a number of months in 2020.

The Small Mercies exhibition will bring together this collection of woodcut prints John hopes this will allow the viewer to connect to this positive creative journey, acting as a reminder to try and do something that makes you feel good every day.

81 limited edition woodcut prints sized 17cm x 17cm will be on sale for £40 each and John also plans to work on a huge 8ft x 4ft woodcut print inside the gallery space, which will then lead into a live print for the public to view on the 19 December.

He will also be working and printing in the space on the 10, 11, 12, 16, 17 and 18 December.

Public access to Artcade will be every open day above between the hours of 10am – 4.30pm. Header image photography by Chris Saunders.
