26 Nov Sheffield and South Yorkshire back in Tier 3 lockdown from 2 December
The Government has announced online that Sheffield and the whole of South Yorkshire will be in Tier 3 from 2 December.
Barnsley MP and Sheffield City Region mayor Dan Jarvis said the Government has put South Yorkshire in Tier 3 from December 2.
He tweeted: “We must not stay there a moment longer than we have to. We need better test & trace; better, fairer support for our people & businesses; and above all a credible roadmap out.”
Tiers will be reviewed by Wednesday 16 December, meaning local authorities in tiers two and three will have two weeks to reduce infections and make their case for being moved down.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the lockdown in England has “successfully turned the curve and begun to ease pressure on the NHS”.
He told the Commons: “Cases are down by 19% from a week ago and daily hospital admissions have fallen 7% in the last week.
“January and February are always difficult months for the NHS so it is vital we safeguard the gains we made.”
